Im sure there was a thread on here about this.
Apparently at some time in the battle of France the SS units were ordered to remove there insignia for some reason.
Anyone know about this or have I dreamt it.
Cheers

Cheers John, any idea what date the order came out and if it was from Himmler or just the divisional commander. ?

Hi Dave,I went through my books,it seems it was SS regiment Deutschland removed their collar patches to avoid identification of their unit.By order of the RF-SS in may 1940,all collar patches with runes and numerals or letters were to be changed for those with just the runes.

Thanks mate, according to some paperwork on war crimes a friend has Germania did the same. We re looking at these units around 24th/27th May 1940 at and around St Venant/Haverskerque area.
One of the reasons is because my dad was with the 1st Btn Royal Berks in that action and im trying to put flesh on the bones of his story.
Cheers
