walking out dress with m43 trousers

Post by Pyotr »

If one was going to wear the trousers made for gaiters for walking out, or say civilian church services at home, or for a friends civilian funeral, would one wear the gaiters? The trousers just look terribly funky without gaiters, yet with them it looks kind of odd.
Have not read or seen photos so am just wondering.

I would say yes that gaiters would be worn as they would be part of the uniform. When home on leave your uniform would have to be immaculate, pressed trousers, the field police would pick up on any infringement of regulations.(The SS veteran that taught us drill had a 'peeve' about re-enactors not pressing their trousers, some thing he would never had got away with in the day.)also worn would be just belt & buckle with sidearm bayonet.John
