Heer clothing and equipment issue

Post by Zeltbahn01 »

Guys!

Does anybody know what a German soldier was issued as basic (early war) ? How much Jackets, how much shirts, how much socks, how much field equipment?

I think its geat to know more about this, i have a lot of information like this for US soldiers but i cant find anything about the Germans :|

Thanks a lot!

Hi Zelt,

welcome to the forum.

as for your question. A soldier, upon conscription, was issued only 1 piece of clothing for each.
Also one piece of equipment. So 1x field uniform, 1xservice uniform, 1x fatigue uniform, 1x greatcoat, 1x bread bag, 1x gasmask canister 1x helmet, 1x field cap etc. Socks and shirts are the two pieces that were issued in more quantities, but I wouldn't know how much.

I would assume 2 shirts (service / parade) and a pair of socks per boots.

Hope this helps

yes, that should give you a rough idea of the pre-war standard issue :)

AND if any item was damaged or lost, the said item would be replaced, however the soldaten would pay TWICE for the replacement as the uniform belongs to Wehrmacht, not the soldaten.

That's not correct at all. They had several sets of uniforms, to be worn on different days of the week. This was only altered due to war economy.

Fatigue uniforms maybe. Would be great if we can find some documentation on this.

I'm not aware they were issued with more than one field uniform and service uniform, coat etc.
