Many originals where made in the blueish hue that SM currently sells. I've owned the newer run, and yes the colors are pretty vibrant, but the great thing about their smocks is that they fade and wear like the originals, so with aging they look fantastic.

Here is the early SM wholesale Palmenmuster.

That looks the mutts nuts I gotta say :)
When I first got my blue one, I got it absolutely stinking than scrubbed it
Down and it looks gleaming now!
I can't wait to use it next time my group does a mid war re-enactment! :)
It's a shame he can't keep both prints on the go

He does tend to bring stuff back around again - probably when he's run out of the current lot.

I wouldnt mind getting the other one - you cant have too many :)

Is SM purely eBay based now? Tried the link I had to their website earlier and the site has gone

Nah this is his new print, I have this one. The black print is the same but the green and brown underneath are different. The old one looks more 'full' if you catch my drift.

For the prices they charge SMW can go whistle dixie until the cows come home. Sorry guys but I don't care how good their stuff is (how good can it be?!), there is no justification for those kinds of prices. You're basically paying a huge premium for Nike/Adidas-like branding.

While I agree SMW stuff is expensive, I don't agree with your analogy.

There is a massive amount of time and money goes into making patterns and hand printing the material for these smocks and items.

I did read on this forum somewhere that he employs a wallpaper company to do his prints
And with patterns like plane tree they're hand printed and are more labour consuming to make.
So really the extra price tag on his plane tree stuff is for the graft that goes into it.
It's expensive but if you wanna look as authentic as possible it's the only way.
Also he goes through the effort of putting the Miss prints in which I think is very authentic!

There's half an excuse for the planetree, IF it's made per the original method of silk-screening by hand. The other stuff, no. Top-quality fabric, top quality ink, produced outside of china/india to a high standard, there are many such civvy jackets made in small runs for far less than SMW charges for its gear. I mean, around $150 for a SMOCK? The construction of a smock is about as basic as one can get in terms of an item of clothing. The material...bog standard poplin. The ink? Are they using Epson printer-ink? :D

SMW charge what the market can bear, and they see their market as predominantly high-salary middle-aged professionals.

But hey, if you have that kind of money going spare and desire the brand... Just don't kid yourselves you're getting a balanced value for money.

That's a fair point there mate, I'm a bit of kit freak so I'm like a magpie to this stuff lol
What he charges with some stuff is quite highly priced.
I'm more than happy with his products so I'm happy to pay for it :) that's just my opinion :)
