splinter smocks

thanks in advance.

Re: splinter smocks
From what I have read and the few I have seen the majority were made of HBT, there are a lot of poor repros about, although Richard Underwood sold a very good one about 5 years ago on HBT fabric.
Just as the hooded smock in Marsh pattern was only made in smooth cotton.
Obviously there were exceptions.

Panther-store.cz does if you ask me, unfortunately almost nobody makes them in the proper HBT cloth.

Re: splinter smocks
The splinter smocks made by ZIB are nice - very nice rough drillich cloth, correct print, not "Asia fantasy splinter". These smocks are not 100% like the original, but ok - and not very expensive.

I'm sorry, I do not have a camera. But I am impressed, even after several years of looking for a proper smock, they are even waterproof!

Re: splinter smocks
Those ZIB smocks look excellent! I would definitely recommend those going by the photographs! Just like originals!
Re: splinter smocks
Yes, the fabric is a bit too thin.fieldgrey wrote:thanks fritz. have not seen better hbt splinter as this. could it be a bit thicker though?
And you should NEVER wash them - only brush them off...
The smocks (like ZIBs tan and water drillich stuff) are not really colour-fast - but they are working on it...
Re: splinter smocks
Not a bad effort with the splinter smock, I'd still really like to know where Richard Underwood got his from a few years ago.
Shame abouts Zibs sumph smocks being on HBT material.

Re: splinter smocks
Were the original smocks color-fast treated? I believe that they were not. If this is in fact the case, it would then be most accurate to have a repro that is also not treated.
Re: splinter smocks
Are we sure about this? I can see one flaw in the print and suspect there is another but it's hard to tell from the website photos.Fritz wrote: correct print, not "Asia fantasy splinter".
Re: splinter smocks
They may well be from China, I'm sure I've seen a far east ebay store with them recently. They are also the one's Richard Underwood currently stocks along with the HBT sumph tarn smocks.
Re: splinter smocks
If Richard U has them I'll check them out at Stoneleigh.
