ss camo cap

Post by Oberleutnant Ulrich »

Was is normal to sew on the SS cap insignia on the oak leaf camo caps? Such as the skull on the front and the eagle on the side?

It was more common not to have insignia on caps. There was an experimental subdued green insignia on camo caps but it did not last long.I know there are a few photo's about which show metal TK's on the front of caps but this is rare.John

The camouflaged field cap, introduced May 1942, was first to be worn without insignia. Later, by order from Reichführer-SS, it was to be worn with insignia. Existing caps without insignia must be worn out. Soon afterwards they discontinued the use of insignia.. if i remember correctly.. So a very few originals with insignia have survived the war.

And we all know how German soldiers followed or did not follow regulations.
