Affraid any thing bought from outside the EU is subject to import charges here is a link http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/index.htm
Im surprised you did not get stiffed on shipping as I believe the US mail will only send air mail only and not surface mail.John

Cheers guys just wondered, only on his ebay page he states he already charges VAT ??

On the £190 smock along with the £28 postage theres a further VAT charge of £24 (sterling),

Phew it adds up  .....more overtime needed methinks lol

I recently purchased some lafette straps from At the Front and ended up paying an additional £20 import tax.

I also got one of SMW's new helmet covers via ebay and didn't end up paying anything extra.

We are not the only nation in the world paying vat/sales tax. The yanks do too. You are not paying UK VAT through a US company....

Cheers greamemac, i guessed there would be some sort of import fee,
but what threw me was SMW stated on there site that prices include
VAT ???, this apparantly is a charge he adds on all items by the sound of it,
anyway hey ho if i want my gear im going to have to pay, funny though never
paid anything extra when buying from Lyndons :?:

Import tax is a real lottery!!!
Vat / sales tax is paid on new goods in the country of origin, then if customs decide to stop your parcel, not all are inspected only a percentage ( mainly iPad sized and that sort of thing), then they will levy a tax on you according to the marked sales value on the box. If they are really bored then they might open it up to see if you are telling fibs on actual value!!!! People have all sorts shipped in the collecting world with $50 values when the items are sometimes many many multiples thereof.
