Joachim Peiper - Uniform Questions

Post by Viktor Kauer »

Just a few things I was hoping I could find some answers to here:

Image

1) What colour piping would Peiper be wearing on the shoulder boards for his jacket, pink or white?
2) What type of tunic is he wearing underneath the Lederjacke?
3) Would he be wearing black Panzer or standard Feldgrau Trousers at this point?

Image

4) Does anyone know what type of boots he is wearing in this picture?

Thanks, if I think of any more queries, I'll post them here,

Kauer

His shoulder boards would be rose pink ie:panzer
His tunic appears to be an m36 tunic, either officers quality or an o/r tunic with officers insignia attached.
As for the boots, they appear to have squared toe's,similar to gebirgs boots, but Im no expert on those (Herr Repper.)

Thanks for the information, knew someone on here would have an idea.

Seen as he is probably wearing either an EM or Officer M36 tunic, what trousers would he be wearing, as I've seen photos with him wearing black-looking trousers with the leather jacket, such as in this photo:

or perhaps it's just the dark shading of the photograph, I don't know.

Danke schön,

Rottenführer Kauer if you look hard you will see that thats the leather Uboat jacket that was on General issue ( ie any rank in the LAH or HJ ) could have it
The photo below looks more like a Issue M37

I've not seen the picture of Piper in the tailored uniform before and did not realise he had the numbered tank assault badge.

Thanks a lot for the information, had forgot to link those two pictures together, now where to get a tailored Panzer Wrap in the future? :|

So you think he's using an EM M36 tunic or an officer quality one? Seems to vary between his high-collar and a different quality in others.

Greetings kameraden :D
Here are some pics of the two "Peiper" inspired tunics i put together last year!
(see below)

(Field grey Officer type)
Reenact SS Panzer.jpg
Reenact SS Panzer.jpg (30.87 KiB) Viewed 16976 times
(SS black Panzer type)

As you can see the rank of both tunics is SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer (Lt-Col) and are both
the "Officer type", the M36 has the "French cuffs" and scalloped pockets etc and the "Panzer
type" has the silver wire edging on the collar to denote an officer, the Panzer badge worn was
the numbered "50-Mission" type, and piping (shoulder straps) on both tunics was pink.
It is intresting to note that Peiper wore the normal Wehrmacht Panzer officer cap with pink
soutache but with the addition of SS insignia which in Peipers case was a metal skull and
cloth officer quality eagle (according to ref sources)

Greetings :D
Here is another "Peiper-inspired" jacket, this time a "leder" type which was originally
a brown "Kreigsmarine deck-coat" which i had "badged-up" and re-buttoned.
In the near future i will be getting a black "U-Boat" leder jacke which apparantly was
the normal type and worn more frequently.

Hi Piper,I think that last picture is an leather greatcoat and not a short jacket /uboat type that Piper is wearing.

Hi Brigadefuhrer :D
You are probably right but in the pic it appears to be a lighter colour, maybe grey?
As i already had a brown short type i badged it up, i have planned to get the black
collarless one though :D

Nice look. I would say though that the leather double brested jacket is a Grey U boat one.
I'm syrprised there are no colour pictures of the great man?

There are a few colour pics out there, mainly studio pics such as below.

Also there is this one which people have seen before, but personally i
doubt it is Peiper as he seemed to have aged about ten years, but certain
ref sources say it is. (see-below)
