What was the law regarding frontline troops and personnal hygene.
We see a lot of groups getting down and gruby which does add to the look of a display but i was curious how acurate this would have been.
Is there a reprint of German military law.
Thanks in Advance.

At the front, as long as kit and equipment was maintained, soldiers were left alone.

If they were returning to the rear and would be going further back or on leave, they were expected to be of a high standard (one veteran FG I spoke to told me how he had a group of about 40 men going back on leave. He made them all remove their kragenbinde and those who had dirty ones were made to go an wash them before they were allowed to proceed).

There are no hard and fast rules other than the normal dress regulation and it would appear that these were enforced with discretion or vindictiveness depending on the individual and circumstances!
