Re: SS FG and the question of Camo!
After the capitulation, the FG were allowed to carry weapons and they remained on duty(but under Allied supervision) to keep order.
One picture of a single FG wearing italian camo pants could mean no more than his original pants were worn out.
Beware the single photo syndrome.

I did have a positive location ID for that photo, but I forget where it was now. Speculative dates have been put at between September 45 and Feb 46. Don't forget that Feldjägerkommando III finally and formally surrendered its arms to the Allies on 23rd June 1946. Here's another along the same lines (taken August 1945):
It's interesting to note that no insignia has been removed - in all other cases of these post capitulation photos, the breast eagle is normally absent. There are a couple of other images from this sequence, and the FG retains his pistol on the rear of his belt.
I've had a full scan through my entire FG photo collection, and the results are:
836 Heer FG photos: 9 instances (photos) of camo being worn, in all cases it was a splinter parka.
98 SS FG photos: no camo at all.

Re: SS FG and the question of Camo!
Thanks for this Dave, i reckon from this thread we can fairly safely say that FG should NOT be wearing cammo certainly to the extent that some in this country do.
I have to say this is exactly the outcome when the we at KP1 investigated it about 18 months ago (Paul you will i think remember that), it caused mayhem then and i expect it will again.

I think that's a fairly safe conclusion to be honest. Just to put things into context a little more, for the Heer FG there are another 28 instances of the grey parka being worn.

Re: SS FG and the question of Camo!
I think that you may find but don't quote me on this that the reenactors in the uk that do SS FG wear camo at some events to cover the DREADED SS symbols that some events said symbols are banned ect so to be able to still do thier duties on the groups display they wear camo .

Cheers

I have on page 40 of "Waffen SS - uniforms in colour photo's" by Andrew Steven & Peter Amodio, a Yugo '44 style camouflage tunic - bearing FG arm insignia.
I would say it's a one off, interesting all the same tho.

Yes I thought it was a referance to that one but looking in to it more it states that the top pockets have pleats and three hole belt hooks also that the buttons are removableJD7 wrote:Franz repper wrote:I have found a referance to a police pattern dot 44 uniform with a diffrent pattern to the standard SS one will look into it more

Re: SS FG and the question of Camo!
Now you mention it lads , i was speaking on a thread a few months back and it was about a dot43/43 pattern tunic that had the FG or was it politzi badges on ? it was a original tunic as well , so another twist in the tail so to speak lol .Franz repper wrote:Yes I thought it was a referance to that one but looking in to it more it states that the top pockets have pleats and three hole belt hooks also that the buttons are removableJD7 wrote:Franz repper wrote:I have found a referance to a police pattern dot 44 uniform with a diffrent pattern to the standard SS one will look into it more

Re: SS FG and the question of Camo!
There is a M44 pattern dot uniform with FG insignia on it - the only thing which doesn't go in it's favour is that the insignia sewn to it contradicts the uniform regulations in force at the time!
I would be more inclined to use photographic evidence to prove/disprove this hypothesis as these things can be faked very easily...
