Post by Hennig »

Hi i think i will need the expert help of Dave here , but i want to find out about the LAH FG , unit names what they done ect also what did the LAH FG have on their motors (markings ) was that different to the normal LAH markings ? .
Tried to look through the net but nothing  have been told to get some books on the subject of the FG but these i think are just of the FG in general , any help would be great .
Many thanks for looking .

There are very few detailed books on the FG (watch this space though... ). Vehicle markings would be the LAH divisional tactical marking plus the service marking (on the left here - this is the back of our Sd Ah 3 trailer):

The '82' is the unit number, so in your case it would be 'LAH', however this were not always used.

The FG unit was merely known as SS Feldgendarmerie Trupp 'Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler' (or SS-Feldgend Tr. LAH for short). Their history and deployments would be the same as the rest of the Division. From the KStN, the manpower allocation in early 1944 for a type 'b' trupp attached to an armoured Division was:
- 3 officers
- 41 NCOs
- 20 ORs

Equipment & vehicle allocation was:
- 13 pistols
- 9 machine pistols
- 5 MGs (34 or 42)
- 45 rifles
- 21 vehicles (light cars and light & medium lorries)
- 6 motorcycles, 4 of which had sidecars.
