Need to find out a few things about the SS-FG

Post by Hennig »

Hi , i just need to ask about the cuff title for the ss-fg , am i correct in to say that early war they wore the brown coloured cuff title , and late war they changed over to the black cuff title ? Did they wear the brown one through the war years ? .
I have M36 tunic and the brown one will look more at home on it so to speak , i have been told that the top and bottom silver lines are not correct and have to come off :? is this correct ??? , i will be getting a later M43 tunic so the later black title wil look better on this .
What is the best dealer to aquire the correct ss goret and are the collar tabs black with orange pipping , or green with orange pipping , and the LAH sign in white not orange ?
As usual people like to try and get the impression correct so not to spend too much on the incorrect stuff so any help in the matter of the SS-FG would be most helpfull to me .
Many thanks in advance to my questions .

Cuff title - SS-Feldgendarmerie type only was worn between the start of the war and 15.XI.44 when it was abolished. Regulations stated it should be worn above the divisional cuff title, but you'll see it above and below in photos. The brown type was for the army only. The upper and lower lines on the Heer cuff title are present in BeVo examples, however the wool cuff titles did not have the Russian braid on that is applied to reproductions.

The police eagle (same as the Heer Feldgendarmerie) was also supposed to have been worn in place of the SS sleeve eagle prior to 15.XI.44 when this was also abolished (a detail often overlooked), however this seemed to not be the case later in the war, probably due to logistical issues of supplying seperate insignia on replacement uniforms. I have photos of it still being worn in October 1944 though.

The gorget used by the SS was the same as the Heer (there was no SS pattern).

You collar tabs will be regular SS style and the piping on the shoulder boards should be orange. Basically apart from the orange waffenfarbe, SS-FG cufftitle and gorget, your uniform will be the same as any other SS soldaten.

The gorgets are all pretty much the same now. The quality is OK, but the yellow on the buttons and eagle needs dulling down a lot.

The brown cuff title was only worn by Heer Feldgendarmerie.

Thanks for clarifying this about the brown cuff title dave , i work for a exhibition graphics company and we have some very good yellow to almost lime luminous (spelling) ? paint that might do the trick will see what the outcome is on that , once again many thanks for your expertise on this subject , it all is most welcome  8)
