That sounds good dave
The tent is a gebirgsverbindezelt 530cm long, 400cm wide, 250cm at the ridge and 150cm walls.

It was originally grey but has faded to a dirty off white colour. These were also produced in the tan colour the same as the staff tents with the 3 colour camouflage.

12 is a good number though, makes a big long tent.

Dear all,

A massive thank you to everyone for your orders and feedback  very much appreciated.

A question that has been asked many times and fellow member just called in to ask the same question. After a good chat we came to the conclusion that I should ask the question here....so here goes:

What other colours/shades would you want to see this model of tent in?

All feedback very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Jack.

As I asked the question, I'll kick off - - - - mouse grey

Grüß Gott Zelthersteller Jack,

From most of the research that I have conducted on wartime German tents, the grosse Stabszelt usually appears in wartime photographs as tan, 2-tone tan/brown camo, or 3-tone tan/brown/green camo. Here are a few reference photos:

Here's an original one in full color:

I'd concur with m'learned colleague here - I have 5 original staff tents, all are tan fabric with 3 colour camo on and dated from 1937 to 1943.

Grey appears in some written references but I've not seen a conclusive they existed (for staff tents) and there is also a brown colour used for some DAK tents.

After doing a bit of scratching and digging, I might have been wrong with the mouse grey, I believe it was a darkish grey, a Panzergrau sort of colour, but I can’t find any photographic evidence as yet.

This question has probably already been asked,so apologies if that is the case. But, what exactly are the camo colours we see here, in the previous postings/photos? Also, what type of paint am i going to use on my new tent?

I've heard of some stories where it's all gone Pete-Tong, so what do you guys reccomend?

Manny

Manny,

The colours which weem to be used mainly are the Reichsheer colours (still in use on a 1941 dated tent) or a single green or brown colour.

Paintwise, I've had LIMITED success with a 2:1 water:emulsion mix when I used to paint medieval tents (that was a heavy 15 oz duck canvas). The problem is any paint like emulsion will seal the fibres and has the potential to turn your tent into a sieve. I have spoken to a few people, and some have had success using cellulose based paint, diluted 1:0.5 paint:thinners and and then sprayed on with a spray gun & compressor. I would suspect that something like a solvent based dye would be best, as theoretically the fibres should absorb it, rather than get coated and sealed.

For a mid/late war style, I'd suggest this type of pattern using a green or brown paint:

Image

The green could be RAL6007 (darker) or RAL6003 (lighter) and the brown could be RAL8017 (actually a red-brown). Get a tester pot if you're not sure of the colours!

The early war camo paints were RAL8010, RAL 8002 and RAL6007.

Thanks for the info,Dave! I'll see if Jack has any spare material or, if he can get any. Then we can experiment with the paints.....

Anyway, i'll report back when/if i experiment....!! But, it won't be soon, as we're waiting on the order to process.

I've got a tropical tent section I hope to drag out and photograph later (the tent in the pics is unfortunately not mine though  )

I know a man who does own that tent though...

That is the Reichsheer three colour scheme. Note how the camo goes over the joints, showing this is applied after manufacture, and is not a printed cloth.

Interestingly, on later manufactured tents the rear vent flap and the additional flap on the inside of the door was omitted.

my not so lovely "normandy special" dkw has the exact same camo colours (with a little red brown chucked in as well), not as artistically applied as on the lovely tent though..... :)

Hi all,

This picture of our staff tent was taken at Malvern last weekend. It seemed very very quite there last weekend but for us it was the first outing for the staff tent and the British officers tent that you see on the righ hand side of the picture. The build quality of the staff is simply stunning.
